Eating with dentures may be difficult at first. Despite being comfortable and your mouth and tongue being used to them, you may not know where to start when it comes to eating. Worry not. In this article, we guide you on how you can get started and used to eating comfortably with dentures.
Cutting food into small pieces
We recommend cutting food into small bite-size pieces to make it easier to eat with your dentures. You may also cut them into strips and chew slowly on both sides of your mouth.
Bite gently
When eating hard foods such as apples, it is advisable to bite using your canines instead of your front teeth. Biting with your front teeth causes your dentures to move which leads to discomfort.
Eat soft foods
Our specialists recommend eating soft foods at first and gradually progressing to eating harder foods when you feel up to the task. More practice will make you adjust to eating with your dentures comfortably. You should also avoid eating hot foods or drinks.
Avoid nuts and other sticky substances
While adjusting to your dentures, we recommend avoiding sticky foods and nuts. These food substances may stick on or get underneath your dentures leading to damage and irritation in your gums.
