Posted on 6/20/2022 by San Tan Oral Surgery
Here's Why You Should FlossProper dental care is important for your mental and overall well-being. Poor oral health can be a significant hindrance for you to enjoy a wholesome life. There are dental hygiene practices that are simple yet crucial for your oral health. Just like brushing, which is an inexpensive dental hygiene practice, flossing is particularly helpful if you achieve perfect oral health. Dentists recommend that you floss every day, and most importantly after meals.

Flossing Helps You Remove Dental Plaque

Regularly flossing is effective in removing and preventing the accumulation of dental plaque on the surface of your teeth. Plaque is a major risk factor that leads to tooth decay and cavities. The mixture of bacteria and food particles often produces acids that eat into your tooth enamel exposing the dentine, and the process of tooth decay begins. If the plaque is left unchecked it can harden to become tartar, and you might lose your tooth if the cavity worsens.

Removing Food Particles in Between Your Teeth

As much as you can brush your teeth, there comes a time that food particles get stuck in between teeth. Our dentist advises against using conventional toothpicks since they can hurt your gums. Flossing the string or water flosser can help in removing these food particles, and in the process help, you avoid accumulating food particles that can increase the risk of developing tooth decay.

What our patients are saying about us

"Dr. Colson is amazing! She explained everything thoroughly without sounding condescending and gently but directly guides you through the whole procedure. She is excellent and super experienced. I got my wisdom teeth pulled (3 partially impacted and one simply extracted) and aside from asking too many questions under laughing gas before the general anesthesia knocked me out, I got no complications and have had essentially no pain at all." – Ana D.
